QUEENS DIAMOND JUBILEE JUNE 2012 - NEW BANK HOLIDAY FOR EMPLOYEES

Date added: 10 January 2012

The Diamond Jubilee celebrations will centre around an extended weekend in 2012 on 2, 3, 4 and 5 June.

The bank holiday for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will be on Tuesday 5 June. To form a long weekend of celebration the late May bank holiday will be moved to Monday 4 June.

Do you have to give employees these Bank Holidays?....

January ususally means employees looking at the year ahead and putting in the all important holiday requests which many managers are having to approve in the coming weeks!

With the news that the Queens Jubiliee on Tuesday 5th June and the moving of the end of  May Bank Holiday are marked by a public holiday giving 2 days that week many employees have been putting in holiday requests for the entire week off with the assumption that their employer will be recognising these as a Public Holidays.

Many employers might be wondering whether they have a legal obligation to give employees the day off. The simple answer from the Labour Relations Agency NI, is that it depends on the terms and conditions set out in each employee’s contract of employment.
